    The Teddy Award has been given each of the last 23 years in both creative and political recognition of those filmmakers and artists who have contributed in powerful ways to the liberation, acceptance and furtherance of LGBT lifestyles, culture, and artistic vision. It is the Berlinale's Queer Film Award. Past recipients have included Pedro Almodóvar, Gus Van Sant, Derek Jarman, François Ozon, Todd Haynes, Heiner Carow, Helmut Berger, Rob Epstein, Peggy Rajski, Jeffrey Friedman, and Tilda Swinton.

This year's special Teddy Award went to Joe, who appeared at the festival on Friday, February 13, 2009. Watch an excerpt from the televised ceremony of Joe's acceptance of his award, as well as find more photos at Teddy.TV
