New Short Film?
Fans have written us about the trailer for Michael Frost's 22-minute short film "3 Stories About Evil" that has shown up on YouTube and includes still shots of Joe, Mink Stole, Billy Drago, and other cast members. Sorry to say, but we haven't much more info on where, when or if this film will be available. For his part, Joe said he was minimally involved, muttering a line or two while on the phone at his desk. We'll let you know if we learn more. In the meantime, while it lasts, here's where you can find the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mmq_P_-5mY

Jack, Jackie and Holly

Craig Highberger, who brought us the documentary and book Superstar in A Housedress: The Life & Legend of Jackie Curtis, now brings his latest documentary to DVD along with two extraordinary Jackie Curtis performances transferred from 1974 video sources. Jack Mitchell: My Life is Black and White is the award-winning, critically-acclaimed documentary about the life and work of photographer Jack Mitchell, who captured 40 years of show business with his camera and became particularly well-renowned for his portraits of dancers. The film is largely recounted by Mitchell himself, with such guest interviewees as Edward Albee, Patti LuPone, and Ned Rorem. Of particular interest for Joe devotees, who will be very familiar with Mr. Mitchell's photographs of Joe (two of which are glimpsed in the film), is the story about Veronica Lake being considered by Morrissey for the Sylvia Miles role in Heat.   No Joe
We welcome this UK DVD showcasing photographer and filmmaker David Bailey's early 1970s television portraits of Warhol, Cecil Beaton and Luchino Visconti. There's an enticing glimpse of Morrissey's directorial approach and how he worked with his actors in an improvisational setting while providing structure, but Joe only appears in two film clips from Trash, a particular disappointment given Bailey's comments in a 2006 interview extra on this DVD in which he says, "There was a place about Joe that I didn't want to go." Helmut Berger fans, meanwhile, will be intrigued by that actor's testy turn when Bailey tries to question him about his private life in the Visconti episode.

    No Go Joe
The December, 2006 issue of Vanity Fair spotlighted 23 players associated with The Factory in a photo by Todd Eberle snapped at the 205 Club in New York. Unfortunately, as Bob Colacello points out, the "divine Joe himself was stuck in L.A." It would have been all the more momentous to have him there, but fans of the era --and the people-- will doubtless enjoy seeing this landmark reunion.

Visit the Jack Robinson Archive at http://www.robinsonarchive.com/index.asp to see the work of this esteemed photographer. In particular, check out the Joe Dallesandro pages and the 14 photos from the 1970 session, all of which are available for sale.

    The Paul Morrissey Collection
This recently released boxed set from Image unfortunately does not contain all of the extras included in the European sets. Essentially, you get the identical Flesh, Trash, and Heat disks you would if purchased separately from Image, then a bonus fourth disk comprised of a new documentary, Factory Days: Paul Morrissey Remembers the Sixties. For a review of this "extra," see the Joe-Pourri Archive. For those who haven't purchased the Trilogy yet, this set is a best buy.

Raro Video Offers Raro Warhol
Italian DVD specialty house Raro Video continues to offer a tantalizing assortment of Warhol titles for those who have all-region DVD with PAL-conversion players. If you have such a player and wish to order these stateside, they are currently available through Xploited Cinema. The Trilogy boxed set is quite good and you'll note they're using a great shot from San Diego Surf on the Flesh cover. Other Warhol titles include The Chelsea Girls, Nude Restaurant, I, A Man, My Hustler, Vinyl, and in a four-silent film box: Kiss, Blow Job, Empire and Mario Banana. An 11-film compilation boxed set called the Andy Warhol Anthology includes all these titles except for the Trilogy. Note: The Chelsea Girls suffers from an improper audio mix, resulting in some sequences which were meant to have sound playing silently and vice versa.

Subversive Cinema has released (2/28/06) the uncut version of The Gardener, fully restored and containing footage not previously available in the Seeds of Evil release, in a new 16x9 anamorphic enhanced widescreen (1.85:1) transfer. The DVD also features a new stereo and original mono mix, Joe’s first-ever full-length audio commentary track with Subversive founder Norm Hill, a commentary track with director James H. Kay, a featurette interviewing Joe, Kay and actress Katherine Houghton, trailers, stills, and talent bios. Special packaging includes lobby cards and a poster reproduction. A review of the disk is featured in the Joe-Pourri Archive.

Tony Ward and Joe Dallesandro
Model-actor Tony Ward, whose muscled, tattooed, and extraordinary physique has been a staple of printwork since the 1980s, met up with Joe at a script reading of Flowers for Albuquerque in 1997. Mr. Ward was also the star of Hustler White (1996), something of an homage to Flesh. To explore what else they may have in common as male sex symbols, as well as find more photos of their meeting, check out The Official Tony Ward Celeb-Icon website at http://www.Tony-Ward.com/

"Joe Dallesandro" Song Hits the Airwaves!
"Joe Dallesandro" is the title (and sung refrain) of a new hit song from the Norwegian pop/rock band Briskeby. It's the second single release from "Jumping on Cars," their third album. Check out the music video here. Then, for more on the band, go to www.briskeby.com. The song marks the duet collaboration of lead singer Lise with Ken Stringfellow of The Posies.

The Trilogy on DVD in the UK
The Trilogy has been released in a boxed edition in the UK with many of the special features, including a selection of Morrissey's short films, that were included on the Italian and French sets. For a review and a list of all the extras, courtesy of Barry Wilson, go here.

Andy Warhol "Giant" Size Breaks Your Book Shelf
A monstrous, 15-pounder, nearly 17" x 13", this book is a conversation piece extraordinnaire and lots of fun to tote through the bookstore while keeping the most casual and nonchalant of expressions on your face. Like Andy and his art, the book is larger than life, an outsized commodity that challenges the notion of what a book should be, in practical terms, and calls attention to its "self." Truly, size matters. But what could have been yet another kitschy Warholesque knock-off for profit, rewards with an astonishing wealth of photographic material (over 2000 images), some never before published, and smart text encompassing the vast array of the artist's life and work. It's a glorious, gargantuan scrapbook...and Joe-seekers will be rewarded, too. (He's on more pages than the index indicates.)
