We are pleased to present below two images from photographer Sam Scott Schiavo’s six-page black-and-white and color layout inspired by Joe Dallesandro that appeared in Issue #21 (Oct/Nov 2003) of K-Code, an Italian magazine.

Sam was gracious enough to allow us to share this sample of his work and had this to say:

“Joe was a great influence in my life from the time I was around 14 years old and read his interview in Rolling Stone. I related to him, his trials & tribulations. Me being a confused italo-americano kid from Philly, I longed to run away to the big apple and hang out in the 'Factory'. When I read your book on Joe, I could imagine his 'talkin' with his north jersey\ny accent very similar to mine!

“I moved to Italy approx. 20 years ago, first as a model, then a model agent and also photographer. I settled in Milano and am for the past 6 years an agent in the men's division at a prestigious model agency in Milano. As a hobby, I am a photographer. I propose my ideas to the magazines. Since Joe has always interested me, and he spent much time in this country and is very appreciated in Europe, I had this idea for some time. I also have a collection of film, photos and other items concerning Joe. Since Joe is 'unico' (one of a kind), I did the story from the perspective of a boy similar to him but not him, a boy who wants to be 'Just Like Little Joe'.”

Sam is shopping around the layout and additional Joe-related photos to other magazines. We’ll keep you posted on where else they might surface. Thanks, Sam!
