Richard Cromwell (1910 - 1960) (LeRoy Melvin Radabaugh) At IMDB Handsome ceramics artist turned actor, Mr. Cromwell played the lead in the 1930 film version of Tol'able David. Profoundly good-looking, he struggled for critical appreciation throughout his career and deserves a re-assessment, though several of his films are now considered lost. Briefly married to Angela Lansbury. |

Laird Cregar (1913 - 1944) (Samuel Laird Cregar) At IMDB One of the all-time great character actors, Mr. Cregar appeared in just 16 films before his untimely death. Oversized and slightly fey, he was a natural and charismatic supporting player, fawning over Tyrone Power in Blood and Sand, infatuated with Betty Grable in I Wake Up Screaming, and then coming into his own as an effeminate heavy with a sweet tooth in the noir classic This Gun for Hire. He was a suave Mephistopheles hearing Don Ameche’s life story in Heaven Can Wait, but his quietly menacing, actress-despising Jack the Ripper in The Lodger brought him widespread recognition. |
